Sul sito web di Reporters Without Borders (reporter sans frontiers) si legge che sul quotidiano La Repubblica del maggio dell'anno scorso sarebbe stato riferito che "
between 30 and 50 journalists were under police protection because they had been threatened. The level of violence against reporters (including verbal and physical intimidation and death threats) is alarming. Journalists investigating corruption and organized crime are the ones who are targeted most. In the Vatican City, it is the judicial system that is harassing the media in connection with the Vatileaks and Vatileaks 2 scandals. Two journalists are facing up to eight years in prison as a result of writing books about corruption and intrigue within the Holy See". Un dato molto preoccupante che ha spinto RSF a ridurre ancora di quattro punti il ranking del nostro Paese portandolo al 77° posti in classifica.
La situazione è molto grave e solo in parte viene alla luce: le minacce sono talora anche a livello quotidiano, le querele intimidatorie, il rischio della vita.
Per non parlare di chi non ha un rapporto di lavoro a tempo indeterminato che rischia di perdere il posto o comunque di non essere neanche difeso nel caso di querele dal proprio giornale se si tratta di corrispondenti. La situazione si è aggravata secondo me da quando c'è anche la crisi dell'editoria in quanto tutto il sistema è divenuto più fragile, dagli editori in giù.
