WHO EVALUATES THE POTENTIAL CARCINOGENICITY OF DRINKING COFFEE, MATE' ECC.

The WHO International Agency for Research on Cancer’s Monographs programme has evaluated the potential carcinogenicity of drinking coffee, maté and very hot beverages. It found no conclusive evidence of a carcinogenic effect of drinking coffee or maté. Limited evidence showed drinking very hot beverages probably causes oesophageal cancer, reaffirming WHO’s position on this issue and advice to let hot drinks cool before consuming them. Tobacco and alcohol consumption are the main oesophageal cancer risk factors.
